Retool Box of Cards
Royal College of Art in collaboration with the Design Museum
The cards serve as prompts for creatives to collaborate at a distance. Each card’s provocation/task was created through an interdisciplinary research group testing through workshops. Members included other MRes RCA students from different schools (communication, architecture, fine arts & humanities): Yuzhen Cai, Marisa Ferreira, Sally Stenton, Roxanne Bottomley, Il Sun Moon, Eleonora Antoniadou, Laia Miret, and myself.
My Role
My role, on top of researching through practice, was to design the cards in collaboration with Yuzhen Cai (illustrator). These cards were disseminated on Instagram @retool.box due to the change in circumstances of hosting the festival online (COVID-19). I was subsequently invited to design the overall brand identity of our exhibition including all postgraduate researchers in the MRes programme (titled: Make it Public: How to be outside of the box when you are stuck in one). In addition, I produced supplemental animations for the wider trailer for the exhibition (posted on the Design Museum’s Instagram, shown below as a gif).

Branding the Festival
Make it Public: How to be out of the box when you are stuck in one.
Playing with the idea of an invisible, implied box that we (reading groups) break out of, the animation below shows this concept.
